Tom and Cade McCutcheon Make the USEF FEI World Equestrian Games USA Reining Squad!

Both Tom and Cade finished in the top 5 of the USEF FEI World Equestrian Games Reining Finals! They are the FIRST father-son team to compete together in the Reining. Cade became the youngest rider to compete for the team at 18 years old! Tom has made EVERY USA Reining Team since it’s beginning in 2002! We could not be more proud of the two of them!  We can not wait to watch them compete for the USA again in September!

We had a WONDERFUL 2018 NRBC!

Mandy McCutcheon Wins the 2017 NRHA LV4 Non Pro Derby!

Hollywood Starburst burst into the Jim Norick Arena as draw 18 in a field of 32 riders during the second section of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby Non-Pro finals with NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Mandy McCutcheon in the saddle. The score to beat was a 221.5, posted by past NRHA Derby Non-Pro Champions Dr. Bill Rhoads and Mega Maggie Mae.

McCutcheon, an NRHA Hall of Famer, nailed each and every maneuver requested by NRHA pattern 10 with the 4-year-old mare, who is by NRHA Six Million Dollar Sire Hollywood Dun It and out of the Smart Starbuck mare Chic Olena Starbuck. Once the duo had closed their run, a 224 appeared on the scoreboard and was not touched through the rest of the night. The duo collected $18,464.

“Our run tonight went well from the start, and I could not have asked her to be any better,” McCutcheon said. “My husband [NRHA Million Dollar Rider Tom McCutcheon] rode her as a 3-year-old, and my dad [NRHA Hall of Famer and Three Million Dollar Rider Tim McQuay] rode her a little this spring.

“[NRHA Professional] Debbie Brown – who trains for us – really put a lot of time into her in the past two months and really helped me figure her out,” McCutcheon continued. “I had a pretty good run on her in Tulsa, but not so good a run at the NRBC [National Reining Breeders Classic]. We put our heads together to figure out what links were missing, and it worked!”

Bred, nominated and raised by Sarah Willeman, of Turnabout Farm Inc., Hollywood Starburst was born at McCutcheon Reining Horses in Aubrey, Texas.

“Tom actually sold her to one of our customers last year and showed her at the NRHA Futurity, where he had a little trouble with her,” added McCutcheon. “This past spring, we bought her back and sold a couple of horses at the [NRHA] Futurity last fall so that we could have a spot for her. It’s hard to go wrong with a good ‘Dun It’ mare!” – Quarter Horse News

Cade McCutcheon is named one of the 2017 USA SVAG FEI Reining World Championships Junior Riders Team members!

Cade will join his other team mates Garbriella Kammerer, Dani latimer and Jack Meadows in Givrins, Switzerland August 9th – 12th  to compete at the inaugural championships for Team USA!

When you have good horses, it makes all the difference. I’m just really lucky to have them.” One of those horses is Always Gotyer Gunsup (Colonels Smoking Gun [Gunner] x Always A Dunit x Hollywood Dun It). The 2007 mare, owned by McQuay Stables Inc., Tioga, Texas, and bred by Trinity Compress Real Estate, Lubbock, Texas, accrued $60,430 in 2012. “She’s pretty special,” said McCutcheon of “Always.” “She’s got quite a bit of personality.”McCutcheon’s success aboard the 6-year-old mare is just one of the reasons she rose to the top of the charts. Must Be Something In The Water

The Tom McCutcheon Equine Spa and Rehabilitation Center was recognized in the October issue of Western Horseman. The article goes on to say “…advancing therapies are lending new life to horses, especially those who enjoy competing. They are healing faster and many times make a full recovery.”

The center here offers an in-ground Aqua-Tred, cold saltwater therapy, Thera Plate vibration therapy, P3 Peak Pulse Performance, Ice Horse ice therapy and Equissage. We offer personalized care with safe, monitored turn out and the option of air conditioned stalls for horses recovering from surgery.

“In the aquatred, the horse has contact with the bottom of the unit, which can help build bone mass and heal injuries at a safe pace since the horse steps using his natural gait but with the force of only about 40 percent of its body weight.” Tom goes on to say, “They’ve [the horses] had a chance to heal any soft tissue and joint issues without the concussion, but they’re still able to maintain cardio [fitness].”
